Penguin 2.0 SEO Update

Google recently rolled out its Penguin 2.0 update on 22 May reportedly affecting around 2.3% of English-US queries. According to Matt Cutts who leads Google's web spam team, this was a significant algorithm update and not just a 'data refresh'.

It appears this update is more comprehensive at targeting black-hat SEO techniques. It is now more important than ever that a website has a 'natural' backlinks profile. Too many backlinks with the same anchor text will trigger an over optimisation penalty and hurt search rankings rather than assist them.

Google does have a links disavow tool to indicate which backlinks should no longer be counted which may help to remove poor quality links to a website.
